Privacy policy

What we keep

• The birth details you enter: date, the time if you give one, birthplace, and gender if you choose to say. This includes details of other people (a partner, a friend, a parent) when you run a compatibility reading for them. Please only enter details of someone else if you are comfortable doing so.
• The names or labels you give saved profiles, such as “Mom”.
• Your past readings: the charts and compatibility results shown in your history.
• The question you type for a Wisdom Draw, or a follow-up question about a compatibility reading.
• If you create an account: your email address (and a password, stored only in scrambled form), or the email address and ID that Google or Apple gives us when you choose to sign in with them. If you stay a guest, you get an anonymous ID instead, with no name or email.
• On your own device only: your language and display choices, a short-lived copy of recent readings so pages open quickly, and your lot diary. These stay in your browser or app and are not sent to us.
• Basic technical records, such as your IP address and browser type, kept by our hosting provider for security and to keep the service running.

What we do not collect

We do not collect your device location, contacts, photos or advertising identifiers. We do not run advertising or tracking tools, we do not build profiles of you for others, and we do not sell your information.

How we use it

• To work out your charts and compatibility on our servers, and to show you the readings.
• To save your profiles and history so they are there when you come back, on this device or another if you have an account.
• To sign you in and keep your account secure.
• To keep the service running and to fix problems.

Who helps us

We use a few services to run 8letter. Each receives only what it needs to do its job:

• Supabase, which stores our database and handles sign-in. Your saved profiles, readings and account details live there, protected so that only your own account can read them.
• Vercel, which hosts the app and its servers.
• An AI service (Anthropic’s Claude or Google’s Gemini, depending on how we have set the app up), which writes the words of your readings. The chart and compatibility values are calculated by our own software; the AI is given those calculated values to put into words, and, for the Wisdom Draw and for compatibility follow-ups, the text of the question you typed. We do not send your name or email to it. Please do not put anything in a question that you would not want a service provider to process. The AI’s own policies describe how it handles what it receives.
• OpenStreetMap’s Nominatim service, to look up places. When you search for a birthplace, the words you type are sent to it through our server.
• Google or Apple, only if you choose to sign in with them.

Your readings are written by an AI

The words of each reading are written by an AI from values our software has calculated. They are for entertainment and reflection, and may sometimes be imperfect. They are not predictions and not medical, financial, legal or psychological advice.

How long we keep it

We keep your profiles and readings until you delete them. You can remove single readings and profiles from the app at any time, and you can delete your whole account (or, as a guest, all your data) under Profile → Delete your data. That removes your account and everything saved with it straight away. Copies of readings that are kept only so common readings load faster are not tied to anyone and are not affected.

Your rights

Depending on where you live, you may have the right to see what we hold about you, correct it, have it deleted, take a copy, or object to how it is used. You can delete everything yourself in the app. For anything else, write to yuhuajiang8@Gmail.com and we will answer within a reasonable time.

Children

8letter is not meant for children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect information from them. If you believe a child has given us details, write to yuhuajiang8@Gmail.com and we will remove them.

Keeping it safe

Data travels over encrypted connections, and access rules in our database let each person read only their own rows. No system is perfectly safe, and we cannot promise it, but we take care and keep the amount of data small.

Other countries

The services above may process information in countries other than your own. By using the app you understand that your information may be handled there.

Changes

If we change this policy in a way that matters, we will update the date above and, for big changes, tell you in the app.
